In 2018, the Down Association held the International Chromosome Carnival for the second time. The event aimed to draw attention to the everyday lives of children living with Down syndrome and other disabilities, and to promote acceptance and support for them and their families.
The programme began with a vibrant, upbeat parade: participants walked across the city, accompanied by music, majorettes and the Budapest Garrison Band of the Hungarian Defence Forces. The goal was to make social awareness-raising a joyful, communal experience — not just to talk about inclusion, but to live it.
The visual world
MorePeaks created the event’s visual identity, this time building on an existing communications strategy. Our task was to craft a visual asset that aligned with the association’s established messages and helped deliver them to the foundation’s community.
The poster we designed combined a carnival atmosphere with a chromosome motif: vivid colours, dynamic graphic elements and friendly typography conveyed the message in a cheerful yet meaningful way. The design aimed to bridge the gap between “children with differences” and the wider public. As the campaign emphasised, every chromosome is valuable.
Together is more natural
The Chromosome Carnival was not only an event but a collective statement in favour of acceptance and equal opportunities. The joint efforts of the hundreds of participants, civil organisations and supporters showed that awareness-raising can be colourful, full of life and genuinely appealing.
